A little bit about me

My name is Torian Romig, I am an experienced childcare professional. I have my Bachelor's degree in K-8 grade education at the University of Washington. It is my passion to work collaboratively and to take care of others that allows me to thrive.

With over five years of experience working with children, I have a wealth of knowledge and skills. My most recent experience was an internship at Finn Hill Middle School. A requirement for my degree.

Previously, I worked as a nanny for over five years. I have found it to be among the best experiences of my life. I remain close friends with each family to this day.

I have also worked at various elementary schools in the Northshore School District throughout the pandemic to provide in-person assistance to underprivileged youth and childcare for front line workers.

The values of the family I am joining are important to me, so I look forward to every opportunity to work alongside them.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a nanny, a babysitter, a preschool teacher and a K-8 educator.

I nannied in the summers for the same family from [phone number hidden]. In 2019, I began my career as a K-6 extended learning teacher. I worked at various elementary schools in the Northshore School District. I worked in the same program until 2021. In [phone number hidden] I was employed as a nanny/ pod preschool teacher until the kids started off to kindergarten.

I also volunteer at elementary and middle schools. As well as at food banks. In an effort to serve underprivileged communities. I have a complex understanding of how environment can shape and influence child development. I also understand how things like food insecurity can impact children's ability to learn and be a part of their community. Providing all children with the opportunity to thrive with the highest level of resources is something I am very passionate about.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love fostering hands-on experiences for children that are not only beneficial to their development but also offer opportunities that help foster a sense of fun and curiosity about the world. The way they navigate the world is truly magical. I believe in providing ample opportunity for outdoor play, going to museums, parks, baking, arts and crafts. As well as imaginative play, reading books (this is so incredibly important to begin reading to children as young as four months old) as studies show it affects their life long literacy skills.

I also enjoy partaking in activities that are child centered. Or, in other words, what they and their families enjoy.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is creating a loving, safe, and nurturing environment that focuses on a child's wellbeing. I believe in building a strong bond, understanding their unique personalities, and adapting my caregiving approach to meet their needs are crucial. As well as being a positive role model, fostering their curiosity, and encouraging their development through play and learning all contribute to a fulfilling and impactful childhood experience. I also value communication with parents, to ensure everyone is on the same page regarding the child's well-being and growth. .

It is my job to set and maintain standards that are consistent to the family that I am with.

My experience with special needs children...

I absolutely enjoy working with special needs children. Not only is my degree and endorsement centered around working with high-needs individuals, but I also have hands-on experience.

Most recently, I worked with a girl aged thirteen, who had severe health complications and brain related disabilities that were present at birth. I worked with her for a few months to establish a routine for literacy and letter recognition. Since my time with her was brief, our progress was measurable, but not at the level I would love to see her be at. During that time, I learned so much from that child. It was an experience I will hold close to my heart. I couldn't be prouder of the progress she made.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I would say my favorite moments were around the holidays. Moments around the holidays always hold memories for children and families. I always feel like it is such an honor to be apart of and witness.

When I was a pod preschool teacher, working with two families, my favorite time was before Christmas. For the whole month of December, we baked cookies, did themed crafts, went sledding and decorated their house with snowflakes. It was just a special and memorable time.

Isabella M. - Seeking Work in Arlington Heights

Live-In Part-Time Child Care Provider Available in Arlington Heights, IL: Isabella M.

Originally from Chicago, I am the product of a large Irish-Italian family. Growing up, my mom and aunts took an 'it takes a village' approach to parenting so I was always surrounded by cousins and started watching my younger family members when I was about 10. Through middle school and high school, I would watch my cousins after school-- picking them up from activities, cooking and helping with homework. I also had about 5 or 6 families in my neighborhood who I would regularly babysit for. Then in college, I live in a neighborhood with young families so I am on call to watch a few children ages 1-4 every so often.
