A little bit about me

My name is Tyshonna, but everyone calls me Ty. I have worked with children since I was 12 years old. I started working with children in church nurseries, then with children during the summer, and finally as a job! My philosophy for working with children is “every child deserves a chance.” This serves as a reminder to me that children are also people with opinions and they deserve the right to be treated as such. In high school I did Teacher Cadet, as I have always wanted to be an educator. However, I am currently studying Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of South Carolina Aiken. My fields of study are education, sociology, and philosophy. I have discovered that I would still love to work with children, but I also want to better understand their different life stages and mental changes.

I was watching a one year old boy, and his sister. Normally when she comes home from school off the bus we would meet her at the stop, this day in particular mom was at the bus stop waiting. So the little man and I were inside waiting when he suddenly looks at me and says “play”. As soon as his mom came inside we were so excited as he had been diagnosed with a speech impediment and this was the first time he had said a word clearly enough for us to fully understand!
