Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I grew up leaning towards younger people at family gatherings, and learned early on in life I enjoy working with children. My career started in helping my mom babysit, and I slowly began to take more responsibility and started to babysit on my own. After graduating high school I started work at daycare centers, beginning as a floater to cover shifts and help lesson plan in infant through prek classrooms, and eventually becoming a lead teacher in the one and 2 year old classrooms. I taught for two years, then got the opportunity to work as a Home Health Aide for kids with special needs, and have worked with teachers, families, and therapists in home and at school to ensure the child got the best care possible.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love exploring developmentally appropriate things that make kids smile! For younger kids this means creating sensory activities and watching them learn and experience things for the first time, while for older kids this could be going to a park and collecting and learning about new plants and animals. I also love doing crafts and throwing dance parties to get bodies moving and energy out! I like to see kids express their creativity and watch their little personalities expand as they grow into wonderful little people.
My experience with special needs children...
While I have been around kids with many types of disabilities, I am most confident in working with children with developmental disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, or Down Syndrome. I have studied the best ways to care for children with intellectual disabilities and have experience with them, however I am always happy to learn more of how to care for your child!
