I have been a professional assistant for scholars, such as a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. I have assisted with guiding student groups through assignments, as well as sample groups for study cases. As a MA student in London, I have assisted students of various cultural backgrounds with college counseling, writing guidance, and career growth.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am very active and athletic, as well as musically inclined! I would love to do everything from impromptu karaoke with your child or watching Disney musicals and movies, to going outside and catching a ball or even playing house. I have competitive background in dance and swim, so I am confident I can keep up with your child's energy levels or encourage them gently to have some physical activity in their life.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Understanding. I truly believe I have to understand both you and your child, and in turn that I should also clearly establish expectations and methods from my end so that you can understand me. All parties involved should understand one another, or at least make the effort to, so that we can create the best environment for your little ones.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with special needs children who have accompanied their parents into the gallery or art shows I have worked at. While the adults communicated with my team during sales, I have accompanied them through the gallery space or convention booth floor, keeping them occupied through interesting historical information catered to their personality and/or interests that they have confided in me. At the same time, I had to keep an eye out for strangers as well as surroundings such as ongoing tours or filmed events that couldn't be interrupted. I am skilled at situational awareness and engagement, and am confident I can learn quickly any other ways I can meet the needs of you or your children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
A ten year old threw a Jenga bucket at me. Yes, the entire bucket. I thought it would be one, and he entirely exceeded my expectations. It was a learning moment for the both of us, as I realized that while fun and positivity are a must for engaging with younger children, boundaries are equally as important. As a youngest child, I do not get frustrated by such moments but rather empathetic, as I know that I have done similar things to my older siblings. I enjoyed feeling that moment of mutual growth, and look forward to encountering many more similar situations (hopefully with less pointy objects).
