I worked for 8 months at an after-school program for kids ages 5-12, but I worked mainly with the kindergarten and first-graders.
I babysat my younger sister until she was about 8 years old, my 2-year-old baby brother as needed when I'm in MA, and I've babysat various family friends' kids over the years.

Setting healthy boundaries, rules, and expectations with the kids (and the parents). Clear communication and follow-through is key.
My experience with special needs children...
I don't have much experience with kids with special needs. The most I have is with my older cousin with severe cerebral palsy, but I didn't take care of her. Growing up I would watch my aunt and uncle take care of her.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I remember teaching moments the most. When you're trying to find ways to help a kid learn and understand a concept, they light up when they finally get it, and you feel so proud.
