I have volunteered at Schaumburg Park district when my daughter was attending the preschool program there.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I like take the kids out of the house- parks, pools, splash pads, children museums, library or any other place outdoors really.
I like to read to the kids, do crafts - more often let them make their own craft, paint, play board games.
We go outside for bike rides, blow bubbles, play with chalk, anything the kids would like.
I usually follow whatever the parents have in mind for their kids, and also let the kids decide what they would prefer to do. Some kids have lots of energy that they need to burn, and some are more quiet and observant.

For me the most important part about being a nanny is being able to help a local family with raising their kids. ( it takes a village)

I love kids and connect with them well. I take my time to get to know them, their interests, their personality and always treat them with respect. I am very predictable and always do what I preach. There is time for routine and rules, but there is time for silliness and playfulness too.

My experience with special needs children...
My only experience with special needs kids is the child I am working with right now. She attended Early Intervention program as a preschooler and had a speech impediment.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have had a lot of funny moments with the kids I took care of. Most kids like to pretend play at home and sometimes that happens when we are in public, so if they are pretending to be a bird, or a cat, or a puppy or any character of their choosing, I usually continue to play along even if we get strange glances from other people . That creates some hilarious moments that make us all laugh.
