A little bit about me

Aloha! My name is Zoey. I am a 20-year-old student at Chaminade University of Honolulu majoring in Data Science, Analytics, & Visualization. I am Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross. I have spent 3 summers as a lifeguard assisting in swimming lessons for children ages 4-12. I have experience working with children and adults with special needs and educating elementary and middle school students. I am also able to assist with homework if needed. I have a 3.9 GPA and my strong suits are computers & math. In the past, I have volunteered at my church's nursery, caring for children ages 3-5. I also have a 3-year-old sister that I have cared for since birth. •••••••••• CAR AVAILABILITY: I currently do not have a car on-island, however, my car will be arriving on Oahu in October •••••••••• SCHEDULE: This semester my classes are strictly online, however, I have occasional zoom lectures on Thursdays. I am also available to work late nights if needed!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Infants: I have cared for my sister consistently: feeding her, burping her, putting her to sleep, changing diapers, changing clothes, bathing/showering.

Toddlers-Teens: I have experience caring for my sister(3y), brother(17y), and many cousins(10-17). In the summer, I've worked with children and teenagers as a pool lifeguard.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Indoor: ANYTHING ALLOWED! I am a friend to playdough, blocks, cars, dogs, dress-up/make-up... you name it!

Outdoor: Aquatics! I am a certified POOL Lifeguard, however, I love going to the beach as well.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe that as an adult it is our duty to care for our children whether or not they are biologically ours. They are new to this world and not every child has good role models in their lives. Not every child has an adult they can truly trust. I believe in creating and facilitating a safe and trustworthy environment for every child I encounter. As a nanny, it is also my job to maintain that same trust with the parents.

My experience with special needs children...

CUH I-Rec: I spent a semester volunteering to work with children, teens, and adults with special needs. My primary task was to socialize and play board games with them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

During the summer, as I was working as a pool lifeguard, we were given a different assignment for the day. We were to watch over the summer fun water slides. It's not unusual for many of our swim lesson kids to attend summer fun as well. However, there was this one child who I noticed at this event that looked quite familiar. And he recognized me as well. He immediately came to me and sat on my lap. I was so surprised because in our swim lessons he would always cry and he would try to cling onto me the entire class. Most kids who cry during swim lessons hate us lifeguards and are scared of us. But he wasn't. He was talking up a storm going "Aunty this-" and "Aunty that-". It was so cute and funny!
