A little bit about us

Hello,

My name is Hunter and my partner Jessica and I are looking for a kind, nurturing, patient, and organized person to baby sit when we have date nights, provide an extra hand when we do weekend activities (for example, museums, outdoor hikes, and going to the beach) as well as part time help when I am away on commercial fishing trips.

I have three amazing children - Isla is turning 5 in February and her brother Beau and sister Lennon are twins who just turned 3 this month (December). We also have two large but very friendly and sweet dogs - Henry (9) and Bryan (almost 1).

We have the children every Wednesday night to Friday morning and every other weekend (Friday night to Sunday afternoon).

I go fishing year-round for several days at a time (typically each trip is at least 7 days but occasionally up to 14 days) and I am not in control of when these trips happen, so we are looking for someone who has flexibility.

The children are wonderful! They can be incredibly easy, great listeners, great free players, and are best friends. They thrive with a good routine and consistency.

As a parent, I am hoping to bring a sweet, caring, and energetic person into my children's lives to enable Jessica and I to give each child one-on-one attention, as well as to help Jessica or I when one of us is away for work.

Here is a typical weekend day:
7 - 8am Breakfast
8 - 10am Structured playtime (e.g., art, toys, dancing, running and jumping around inside in the winter, gymnastics or riding bikes outside in the summer)
10 - 10:30am Snack
10:30am-12pm Free playtime
12 - 12:30pm Lunch
12:30pm - 1pm Clean up
1 - 3:30pm Nap (usually just the twins but sometimes Isla naps)
3:30pm-4pm Snack
4-5:30pm Playtime
5:30pm Dinner
6 - 7:30pm Hang out or watch a movie, clean up, bath / shower, snack (fruit or crackers)
7:30pm Brush teeth, books, songs
8pm Bed

Thank you for taking the time to read this description. We look forward to meeting you!

All the best,

Hunter & Jessica

Types of Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Maine

Before you start looking for a nanny job, it's essential to learn about the different types of nannies and how they compare to each other so that you make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities.

The different types of nanny jobs have different nanny responsibilities. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. However, in general, a nanny is responsible for making sure the children's needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to make sure your expectations are aligned with the family.

There are temporary nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary nanny positions, there are differences between full-time and part-time nanny jobs. The primary difference being the number of hours you spend at your nanny job every week. For full-time nannies, there are options for live in nanny positions and live-out positions in Maine. Live-out positions are more common, but each family has their own set of needs that require different types of care, and live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want. If you're looking to explore live in nanny positions, it's even more important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

How to Interview for a Nanny Job in Maine

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here is a list of some nanny interview questions to prepare for:

  • What do you think children like best about you?
  • What kind of activities will you do with children this age?
  • How do you handle problems that arise behaviorally and emotionally with kids this age?

Beyond answering questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
