"Emily was a fantastic nanny and family assistant for our family. She came onto our household staffing team at a crucial point in our lives when my wife had just had another baby and our 4 young kids’ needs outnumbered our abilities. She mainly focused on our newborn who was 4 months old at the time, and assisted in planning our weekly calendar, routinely shuttling our kids to summer camps, horseback riding lessons, and other appointments. Emily did a wonderful job managing everything from plating meals from our chef, to planning occasional educational activities for the older kids, nap time schedules, managing communications between vendors for our home and overall household coordination. We had a contract with her just for the summer and we parted on great terms. We still send her updates about our children and their milestones and are in communication occasionally when we need someone last minute. We would love to have her back with us again if she weren’t so ambitious!"

"We needed a temporary nanny and after connecting with several nannies, we hired Francisca. Just from the initial communication she was professional and personable. It was lovely to find out she was even better on the job. She provided care for my four-month-old son but my two year old also felt instantly comfortable with her. My son was very well taken care of and Francisca was able to learn and adapt to our style quickly. I notice she is intuitive and attentive in her care for my son and the fact that she has an RN background and caregiving background comes through. Francisca will be a great help to any family and we recommend her very much."

A little bit about me

I am 28 years old, from Detroit, Michigan. I studied in Texas and now live in sunny California. I love fashion and social media and spending time with my church. I have worked with many different people, cultures and language barriers. Growing up in church I have always had a passion for people and community and service. These were just stepping stones into my future career after school. Once my position moved into a more professional role, I have been able to work with many high net worth and high profile families. I excel at following tasks and lists, as well as running things efficiently on my own and managing my clients home life, children, appointments etc. I wear many hats in my role and have had to manage multiple children and adults while being punctual and efficient. I love to work hard and have room to grow with my future family. This isn’t just a job for me, it’s about making a difference in the lives we connect and grow with.

"I am a Co-Director of CFL Kids' Camp, a one-week resident camp for abused children, ages 7-11, of which Jennifer volunteered for a few summers. She was responsible for 1 or 2 young girls, 24/7, throughout her week at camp. I found her to be highly responsible and very engaged with her campers. She is a sweet girl and very independent. I have lost touch with her over the past few years as she moved out-of-State. My dealings with her are favorable and I wish her the best on her quest for seeking a position with your firm."

How to Find a Babysitter in Los Angeles, CA

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, a dedicated hiring agent, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Los Angeles, CA

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Los Angeles can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Los Angeles Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in California?
  • Do you have a California driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
