A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Saffron! I'm a full-time public school educator during the school year, where I support children ages 4-18, including learners with disabilities. Before that, I supported youth as a nanny for toddlers and babies, and as a teaching artist at an after-school program for elementary-age (PK-6th) children. Because of my years of experience in diverse public schools like those in CPS, I am well-versed in trauma- and disability-informed de-escalation strategies; I pride myself in being a safe and supportive adult for all children. In my free time, I love to make art--creative kids and I really click!

I am available part-time/as needed until the end of the school year. After the first week of June, I am available full-time.

A little bit about me

I’m Nkanyezi (“Star”), a professional nanny and house manager with 23 years of experience caring for infants, toddlers, and multiples across Chicago and its suburbs. I combine nurturing, attentive childcare with smooth household management, giving parents peace of mind. A certified newborn and infant specialist, I’m skilled in feeding (bottle/breastfed), sleep safety, diaper routines, and developmental milestones. I excel with twins and triplets, balancing sibling needs with patience and structure. For toddlers, I encourage social growth through sensory play, enrichment classes, storytime, and outdoor exploration, always with parent approval. I manage child-related tasks—laundry, meals, nursery organization—plus grocery shopping and family logistics, communicating clearly with parents. Known for safety, calm, and flexibility, I anticipate needs, adapt to changing schedules, and bring trusted, glowing references.

A little bit about me

I started working as an assistant teacher in 2021. I worked at Children’s Lighthouse. I instantly loved it. Spending majority of my time with these kids was so rewarding. I started in an infant class and transitioned into a toddler teacher. My daily routine would be start at 8:00am help the lead teacher checked the students in as parents did drop offs. Breakfast was served at 8:30am. Nap time was at 9:00am. As they woke up one by one, we’d get ready for story time. Lunch was served at 11:00am. Circle time was at 12:00pm. We either read books or sang songs. If the weather was pleasant we’d go for walks outside. If not they can go to the gym and play with toys. Snack time was at 4:00pm. Parents would start to pick up around 4:30pm-6:30pm. It didn’t feel like a job to me. I absolutely loved every minute of spending time with these little humans watching them grow into our future leaders.

How to Find a Babysitter in Chicago, IL

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, a dedicated hiring agent, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Chicago, IL

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Chicago can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Chicago Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Illinois?
  • Do you have a Illinois driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
