A little bit about me

I am a current student at the University of Tennessee majoring in biology and hoping to become a pediatric occupational therapist! I love working with kids and I have been a babysitter and nanny for the last 7 years. I am happy to do work around the house, make meals, help with school work, and pretty much anything else! I am very pet friendly and happy to help take care of them too.

"Katie started with us as a mother's helper while I was *very* pregnant and trying to keep up with an energetic 2 year old. She helped us for 5 years (!) until she left for college and we miss her dearly. She was amazing with my boys because she took interest in them, versus only making sure they were safe, which seems to be the case with other sitters I've had. I would come home to art projects she did with the boys. She taught my older one a song she made up so he could learn how to spell his name. She even taught him how to put on a t-shirt. I could always trust Katie to make good decisions and be responsible. It was easy to say, okay- here are the van keys, credit card and the boys. Go do xyz! I feel very lucky and blessed that we were connected through a post on Next Door and my family misses her immensely. She visits us when she comes home on break and the boys are always super excited when they learn she's going to come over. We highly recommmend Katie!"

A little bit about me

Hi, I’m Sierra Lawrence. I am available all week long and am willing to negotiate weekends as well! I have multiple references if you would want/need them. My go-to sitter activities are going to the park, going on walks, swimming, chalk and bubbles, making yummy foods with the kids, coloring, etc! A little bit about me, I enjoy singing (I did choir all throughout middle and high school), I used to play the flute, ukulele, and a bit of guitar and piano. I enjoy working out and do so very consistently. I absolutely love being out in nature. Baking is another thing I really enjoy (I make some great cookies)!

I look forward to meeting you!

A little bit about me

With a heart for little ones.. I’m a blessed momma to 4 kids 22-27 & married to my crush for 31 years. Recently moved to West Hills, Knoxville, TN from Traverse City, MI. My passion is supporting children in a loving, structured environment. As a former stay-at-home mom, our home was the playdate/sleepover house from pre-K to college—affectionately named “Camp S.” because neighborhood kids were there every day! I miss the piles of shoes & mismatched socks at my front door. I thrive in active environments. I adore babies & bring decades of experience with infant care, soothing & milestones. I offer the seasoned judgment & calm demeanor that comes from raising my own family. I have my own transportation & safe driving record. CPR/First Aid updates are in progress. I offer overnight care. Love reading, the creative arts & nature. Looking forward to partnering with your family, supporting your parenting style, & creating a safe, joyful environment for your little ones. With warmth, Kim S.

How to Find a Babysitter in Knoxville, TN

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, PLUS, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Knoxville, TN

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Knoxville can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Knoxville Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Tennessee?
  • Do you have a Tennessee driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
