Monique L. - Seeking Work in Corona

Hours (full-time or not)Full-time hours

I was previously a live in nanny in the Mission Hills area for the past three months, before i had to leave that position due to the fact that their youngest child was diagnosed with cancer while in her years of remission. Therefore, her mother and family would be caring for her. I was primarily caring for the one child (two years of age), preparing meals, teaching her primary colors, shapes, animals, sounds, and broadening her vocabulary. My goal as their nanny was to bring her up to speed developmentally, since she spent a lot of her first year in the hospital due to the cancer. My other responsibilities and duties throughout the day were to sweep, mop, do the families dishes, and some days wash and fold laundry; which I primarily completed while she was napping to devote my attention to her learning and play time instead of me cleaning while she was awake. Previous to this employment i have worked as a live-out nanny and also a daycare administrator for an in home child care facility. I was at that nanny position for close to two years, but was laid off due to the fact that the mother no longer wanted to work. My responsibilities were to transport two school aged children to school, care for the youngest child, pick the children up from school make lunches help with homework. I also transported the children to their extracurricular activities such as swim and gymnastic classes. As for my in classroom experience, I attended classes at riverside community college (PHD obtained at John Hopkins). I obtained my child development assistant teachers certificate in 2008 and also took other child development course that did not count towards any certificates. Through these classes i learned that I have a passion for seeing a childs face when they realize that blue and yellow make green, and knowing that by me nurturing their growth I help them to suceed and do better in elementary school and even on into their adolescent years, which has been proven by studies.

My childcare experience started when I was in high school and started to babysit for my family and close family friends. The adults in my life saw me as a mature teen who could be trusted with their children. My mother was convinced that my talent could blossom into a career, and she encouraged me to become educated in Early Childhood Studies. I completed my classes at Riverside Community College and followed-up with an internship at in Riverside. I have worked in corporate childcares such as , and was often offered babysitting jobs on the side by parents who knew and trusted me. My most recent experience has been as a personal nanny to a wonderful family with an infant daughter and a school-age daughter.

Betty Ann E. - Seeking Work in Corona

Hourly rate12.32 / hour

the majority of my childcare experience comes from raising my own three children. I have three daughters, ages 29 and 27. The younger ones are twins. This has been both the hardest and most rewarding experience of my life. Being a parent is the most selfless and selfish job in the world. In addition to my own children there were always other children in my home. Sometimes it was a paid childcare situation. I believe being a parent is the best experience that you can have.

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in Corona, CA?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of Corona’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.
