The Montessori method plays a huge part in my childcare style. Through experience I have learned that the best way to take care of a child is to give them full control of their own lives. As their teacher/caregiver - it is my job to make the right choices seem like the most fun or best choice. I do not believe in any kind of discipline; I am not their parent and I do not want to take an authoritative position. My goal is to help them want to do the right things not make them. I am a firm believer in natural consequences - nothing happens at my hand, everything happens because of their actions. I just recently left my position as an Assistant Director of a preschool on the Upper West Side. I loved the job with all my heart but I have put of continuing my PsyD for a year and it is time for me to continue. I am looking for a family that is interested in more than just childcare. I believe in educating children as much as possible - with as much fun as possible. Especially with children under the age of 5, everything about their underlying personalities develops between those years and it is my job to create an environment where that development is nurtured. You have no way of knowing what will imprint on a child so you have to make sure everything you do is beneficial and done in a loving manner. It is imperative that they feel safe as I am teaching them to put their faith and trust in someone other than their parents. I am sure this is what most people will say - but I honestly don't find anything challenging about caring for infants. If I had to pick one thing it would be figuring out what their needs are when all the obvious have been checked. (fed, well slept, clean etc) I find the most rewarding things about working with infants is watching them begin to soak up, take in and understand the world around them. I began working with special needs children and adults in 2004. I fell in love with it and continued went to Hofstra University to pursue a degree in Child Psychology. I am still working toward my PsyD and hope to finish within the next 2 years.

I've been watching childeren my entire life off and on. When I was younger, I did it full time, now I work in an office setting (I'm looking to go back to full time child care because I love it so very much). I take care of friend's children regularly on weekends and nights since I don't have a full time child care position at this point.

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home.
