A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Cate DelSignore and I have been working as a nanny for over two decades and possess many years of childcare experience beyond that. I hold a Bachelor's degree in History from YSU and worked at YSU Student Tutorial Services whle attending college, an experience that taught me the skills to help children of all ages with their educational needs. I am certified in First Aid and Infant First Aid and pride myself on staying calm during emergencies. I also have experience working with children with special needs, including but not limited to: premature babies, Autism, ADHD, Operational Defiance Disorder, Dyslexia, seizure disorders, and multiple sclerosis. I am also willing to help with housekeeping, cooking, running errands, and other household tasks. I believe strongly in providing the best possible childcare and doing whatever I can to be an asset to any employer. I view childcare as more than just a job, I see it as an opportunity to help children and families succeed.

"Cate has been my primary childcare provider since my oldest son was born 18 years ago. From the first day her devotion to he job was obvious. When I later received primary custody of my son Cate was essential. My son had behavioral and psychological problems and Cate was more than capable of handling these issues. She went out of her way to educate herself on my son's diagnoses so that she could provide the best possible care. She worked with me and my son's therapist to develop strategies to assist my son and she always followed the rules I established for my son. She is also willing to help with work around the home like dishes, laundry, and cleaning. As a single father who was overwhelmed a lot this helped more than I can say. Even when I remarried I kept Cate as my primary childcare provider- especially after my wife and I had two more kids. Cate is the only person outside of family that I would trust to care for all three of my children. She is truly an exceptional person."

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Youngstown, OH

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Youngstown Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Youngstown? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Youngstown?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in OH? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!
