A little bit about me
We moved to Charlotte, NC as a family 19 years ago and I definitely consider North Carolina my home. I was a stay at home mom from the time my children were born until they entered middle school. Once they entered 6th grade, I began teaching computer and science to elementary and middle school students. During this time frame, I also volunteered and helped with nonprofits.
I hold a BS in Marketing and a Masters of Education. Some of my greatest professional accomplishments include being nominated to the Curriculum Committee in the area of Science for the MACS school system as well as being viewed as an international subject matter expert in the area of Human Trafficking; I have spoken at the New Zealand Embassy.

A little bit about me
My name is Hannah Shealy, and I'm a college student at Appalachian State University, currently home in Charlotte for the summer. I live in the Dilworth neighborhood and am 19 years old with a passion for interior design.
I’ve had experience babysitting for family friends during high school and absolutely loved it! Since then, I’ve worked part-time jobs in retail and at Southminster retirement home, which taught me a lot about patience, kindness, and responsibility. I currently work part-time at Spoons in Cotswold, but I’m looking to babysit again because I truly enjoy working with kids.
I’m a quick learner, I follow directions well, and I’m confident in my ability to lead and care for children with patience and positivity. I’d love the opportunity to connect and see if I’d be a good fit for your family!
Best,
Hannah Shealy

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Charlotte, NC
Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.
Charlotte Nanny Interviews
Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:
- Do you have experience being a nanny?
- How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
- What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
- Are you open to a live in arrangement in Charlotte? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
- Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
- Do you have any references?
- Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Charlotte?
- Do you have a driver’s license in NC? Do you own a car?
- What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
- What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?
During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny
Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
