A little bit about me…

I have worked as a live in nanny for a family with two boys, ages 3months and 4 years old. I also worked as a live in nanny for a family with a 2 year old little girl. I provided all aspects of care while at both jobs, while the parents were both in and out of the house. I also did housekeeping and occasional overnight care when parents were traveling. I also worked at a private child development center for almost two years. I worked with all ages groups (from 6 weeks to 5 years) but was primarily a teacher in the infant room, where we cared for babies ages 6 weeks up to 15 months. I also spent a substantial amount of time working with toddlers and preschoolers. We provided all aspects of care the the child development center; diapering, meal prep, feeding, nap time, small/large motor activities, etc. We worked on a 1 to 4 ratio, which means there were many times when I was the only adult taking care of 4 infants - definitely chaotic at times but I absolutely loved it! I have also worked as a camp counselor, teachers aide, piano teacher, Sunday school teacher, and I spent years babysitting. I babysat specifically for two families all through high school, both had two kids. I still babysit for them on the occasional night. I have cared for the children in these families from the time they were 3 months to their 4th birthday, and from one year up to seven. Its been amazing to watch them grow up and I cannot believe these little babies are running around in grade school now!!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Providence, UT

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Providence Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Providence? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Providence?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in UT? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
