A little bit about me

Hi! I am Aekta (pronounced “Ache-ta”). I graduated from GMU 2021 with a B.A in Integrative Studies and Individualized Concentrations in Mindfulness & Creativity (to fulfill the prerequisites for potentially getting a Masters in Art Therapy). I’m 27 & I enjoy music, concerts, the colder seasons and nature (walking/hiking) writing, mindfulness, yoga, content creation, artistic expression, & studying the human potential. I think every child is unique and that it is something to be celebrated. I love helping people discover their strengths and learn how to improve their relationships with themselves and others through nurturing their gifts, adopting healthy boundaries and self-care, and learning how to approach life with a growth mindset. As an HSP & a "big kid at heart," I can relate to the innate curiosity that kids have and believe it is something to be celebrated and nurtured. My approach with kids is playful, creative, inquisitive, calm, & empathetic. I have 6 years of experience.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

-6 years of experience working with kids in childcare, summer camp, tutoring, after-school programs, volunteering, and other more instructional settings for kids ages 2 and up, though most of my experience has been with kids 4 and up and elementary aged.

-Created & facilitated a curriculum of therapeutic art activities for elementary & middle school aged children & neurodivergent populations (such as those with on the Autism Spectrum) through volunteer & part time job opportunities.

-Taught art, LEGO robotics, & martial arts to elementary & middle school aged kids through various part time jobs

Provided tutoring & homework assistance to elementary, middle & high school aged kids through previous jobs.

-Led 10-15 Guided Mindfulness Meditations for middle schoolers through a volunteer opportunity & to all ages through a personal podcast

Developing a healthy and nurturing, respectful relationship with the child/children that encourages them to grow and love/respect themselves and others.

My experience with special needs children...

Some experience with ASD kids and kids with sensory sensitivity (not much but some) and some experience with ADHD/ADD children. I can also relate because I am neurodivergent.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite memories working with kids is when they ask me to read to them and/or they read to me, they ask me draw/draw with me, or they ask me to teach them something they're interested in learning. I love the process of intellectual and artistic exploration with young, curious brains! Huge nerd here.
