I have worked as a camp counselor, where I was CPR and First Aid certified, I have volunteered with children at church since high school, and I've been babysitting and nannying for ten years.

My experience with special needs children...
I nannied one summer on a part-time basis for a boy with severe autism. I picked him up from horseback lessons, drove him home, made him snacks, and played music and games with him until his mom got off of work.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my 12 year old boys, after losing in a game of capture the flag, was sitting dejectedly away from the other kids. I walked up and asked him what the matter was, and he explained that he was upset that the other team had cheated to win. I nodded, and we sat in the quiet for a while. After enough time had passed, he pointed at my leg and asked where the scar on my knee had come from. We spent five minutes one-upping each other with scar stories, after which he felt much better and ready to rejoin the group :)
