More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have worked in both daycare and school settings. I worked as a lead pre-k teacher for 3 years. My duties included overseeing 10 children ages 4-5, creating lesson plans, creating fun and engaging activities to facilitate learning, as well as maintaining consistent parent contact. I also had the opportunity to work at a school for children of all ages with autism and other special needs for 2.5 years as a Registered Behavior Therapist. My duties included working 1:1 with a child, following behavior reduction and acquisition protocols, collecting data, and communicating with parents regarding their children's progress and any other important information.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I strongly believe that play improves the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children. Through play, children learn about the world and themselves. Some of my favorite activities to do with children are bubble painting, age-appropriate science experiments, sensory bins, and anything and everything outdoors such as going to a playground, taking a nature walk, or water activities when the weather is nice!
The most important part about being a nanny...
There are a lot of important parts of being a nanny. Firstly, being someone that parents can depend on and rely on to keep their child safe and happy. Communication is another important factor that goes into nannying. You must be able to communicate well with parents to understand the specific needs of their children and ask questions if you are unsure about something. You also need to be creative and have the ability to think on your feet – every child is different and will engage in different activities.
My experience with special needs children...
My experience with children who have special needs began when my younger brother was diagnosed with autism at a young age. I then worked at a school for children with autism and other special needs for almost three years.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have a lot of favorite moments working with kiddos. But my absolute favorite is when they are excited about a skill they learned that they struggled with at first. For example, I was working with a kiddo for a while who was very scared about transitioning from training wheels on his bike to no training wheels. He expressed to me that this is something he really wanted to do but he was still a little nervous. We went outside every day for about 2 weeks rain or shine and got a little closer to his goal each day. Over the weekend, he finally got it and his mom sent me a video of him riding all by himself, no training wheels! On Monday, as soon as I pulled into the driveway he ran outside, grabbed his bike, and told me, "Watch this!" I of course pretended that I hadn't seen the video and joined in his excitement as he rode his bike all by himself.
