A little bit about me

I go by Andy, and I can't wait to help you with your kids. I find kids rewarding to take care of, because they're sweet and have a lot of personality. I can help with neurotypical and neurodivergent children, as well as pets. I'm very proactive, as I always try to give activities that are educational and or social.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have babysat, nannied for cousins during the summer, Pet sit up to weeks at a time, and worked as a summer camp counselor for district 65. (Evanston/Skokie)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like to play a large range of games, usually letting the child pick with some restrictions, and allow them to make up their own games as well.

I often go on walks to get out some energy, and usually without any sort of time limit, so if they want to take breaks or go an extra block out of the way we can explore a little.

Though I may not always know what they're saying, I like to have conversations, which can help them gain conversational skills as well as give them confidence.

I also, depending on age, like involving them in more adult or responsible activities (ex. cooking, cleaning, pet care...), so that when they get to the age that they have to do these activities it's an easier transition and they possibly even think of them in a more positive light.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The families. We live in an individualistic culture, and it can make it very difficult for families. When all of childcare falls on 1 or two adults, especially when the 1 or two have to work, and even more so when it's multiple children. Adults need me time to be able to give the children what they need, but there often just isn't time for it. So, either the parent(s), the kid(s), or neither get their needs met. A nanny can help fulfill both the parents needs and child's needs, by allowing the parents more stress-free time and by giving the children some of the attention they require.

My experience with special needs children...

The children I've taken care of the most are my three young cousins. One of them has Adhd, another has autism and is non-verbal. I remain the second best at taking care of them in my entire family. When I was a camp counselor, I was usually placed with a group of younger children. One of the kids in that group had neurodivergent tendencies and I was the only one who knew how to help during any meltdowns.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I don't think have just ONE favorite moment. Nor, are there any that would be particularly interesting. The most satisfying memories I have though are when I help them to be happy and make good memories. Like when I volunteered to take my cousin to fourth of July fireworks since everyone else was tired. She ran around, made friends with some children by us. Despite being very tired as well, it was very sweet and calming in a way to watch her be amazed by the fireworks and jump around with the other kids. Especially since she has adhd and is very high energy but needs to hold still or be calm a lot of the day, which can really be difficult for a kid.
