Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a nanny for two senior level executives for the last five years. When I first started there was one 14 month old and one golden-doodle in a three bedroom home. I have helped them move twice, welcomed a new baby, a new puppy, and continue to meet the needs of this growing family. They would describe me as the "CEO" of their family. I love supporting a positive home environment and helping their family to function at it's highest level.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to see children grow and develop new skills. I also think it's important for kids to socialize and learn those skills at an early age. I plan a lot of play dates and classes where they can interact with kids their own age and develop friendships. With my current nanny family I enjoy taking the boys snowboarding, ice skating, getting them outside. We build a lot of legos, play board games, and set up "Ninja Warrior" courses.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Understanding the family values and aligning my care and support to match them. Also, understanding the child's needs and personality to approach them in a way that makes them feel loved, safe, and understood.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked with a 5 year old boy with special needs during my senior year of college. He was such a light in my life. He had experienced abuse and neglect in his first years of life that resulted in a multitude of behavioral and mental health diagnosis. I loved seeing him learn new skills and develop trust and friendship with me and other supportive people in his life. We loved to celebrate all of his accomplishments big and small along the way!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Oh my gosh, this question makes me so happy. I feel like I could write a short story with all the funny moments and sweet memories I have. My favorite have got to be the bedtime conversations. We have gratitude journals we fill out with the boys each night and it is so fun to hear what they are thankful for and what made them happy each day.
