More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I grew up caretaking for my siblings and other kids in the neighborhood. Started babysitting at 12yrs old and became a camp counselor (2yrs) at 15. I led backpacking trips for highschoolers while I was in college and work for the Minneapolis Park Board right after my undergrad in youth anti-violence work.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love going to parks (outside time is soo important!) and museums or learning about their interests and finding ways to do some together. For instance this one youth I mentored was into Zines and Comics so I found a Zine convention for us to go check out.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Communication and patience. Kids are amazing humans in so many ways. It’s all about taking interest in their life and being a safe and reliable space for them.
My experience with special needs children...
I grew up with a down syndrome family friend. I also have close friends with highly autistic brothers and we love to check out zoos all together. In childcare it’s all about learning each individual child’s needs, wants, expressions, and boundaries.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My fam and I still tell this story to this day. A kid I babysat for years when I was a teen (from the time he was 3-6yrs old) had come to hang out with me and my family. We were running around playing and he farted very loudly. We all laughed and he looked at us seriously and said “what? it’s just a natural part of your body.” 😂 Anytime we fart in our family we always say that line now.
