More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Between 1984 and 1988, I was part of a collective of new mothers who watched each other's infants so we could work outside of the home. I also was a nursery attendant at a gym from 1985 through 1988. Once I became a grandparent, I was a newborn caregiver for both of my grandchildren.
In addition to in-home care, I provide a separate "remote support" newborn sleep coaching service for parents who want to learn about developing healthy sleep habits from birth. Rather than a one-off teaching session, I work with parents for as many weeks as they need to feel comfortable on their own. Starting off early results in great sleep patterns for both babies and parents and negates the need to hire a sleep consultant to undo unintentional patterns many sleep-deprived parents use because they're not aware of alternatives!
I have great references from both families where I provided in-home care as well as sleep coaching. These families would be happy to share their experiences with you!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I tailor developmental play to match your Little's quickly evolving skills.
Because my focus is on 0 to 6 month olds only - I'm able to spot opportunities to introduce new activities to encourage mini-advancements to practice and master new milestones.
This includes tummy time, visual, tactile and audible stimulation, face to face time with music/singing, and of course snuggling.
I strongly support periods of independent play where your Little has time for unrestricted movement on his/her playmat. I'm not opposed to swings or bouncy chairs, and use them judiciously (and always attended) as part of your newborn's activity period.
My favorite activity is taking your baby outdoors for a short walk to expose them to natural light and fresh air (which helps with day/night confusion).

The most important part about being a nanny...
I help new families thrive rather than survive through the first six months. I establish age-appropriate routines and counsel parents on healthy sleep habits. Newborns are habitual creatures and function much better when there's a routine in place. A routine is NOT a schedule. It's a pattern of actions that are done in response to your newborn's cues. By understanding what your Little needs at any given time means your life becomes more predictable and baby...more comfortable. My most important task is helping you find a routine that works for you, your lifestyle and parenting approach!
My experience with special needs children...
I've had the pleasure to care for several preemies. A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) should be guided by the pediatrician's and parent's treatment plans. I'm always amazed at the resilience and growth of both the baby AND the family, and am proud to contribute to that success!
I've had experience with several Littles with severe reflux, requiring special attention to feeding technique, and timing for play and sleep to help keep milk in the tummy, rather than on my/your shirt!
I've worked with several Littles with Torticolis, a tightening of the muscle one side of the neck that causes baby to consistently turn their head to one side (all the time) which leads to asymmetry of the skull. As your NCS, I'd follow your pediatrician's written plan for your baby's regimen.
When there's a situation that's new, I'll research the situation first, confer with my mentors (Elite/Advanced NCS), and then present the information to you. We're collaborating to help your baby have the best start!

The most important part about being a nanny...
With newborns, every week is filled with "firsts". I delight watching my Littles learn about the world around them. My job is to create the environment and situations that promote physical, social/emotional, cognitive and language development. But by far my constant "favorite" is the moment my Little gives me a big smile when I start my shift and after waking up from a nap. Priceless.
