A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Ashley and I am 23 years old. I have had a passion for working with children for as long as I can remember. I have just completed my Child Development Associate Teacher Certificate at Miracosta College with a 3.5 GPA. I have previously worked in a preschool/daycare and absolutely loved it. There I was a floater who worked with all the children ages 0-6 years. I have also been a babysitter for two adorable and sassy 7 year old girls. To help out, I have tutored kids ages 6-18 in subjects such as Math and English. I believe that it is essential for a child to trust and bond with their caregiver. Thorough communication between caregiver and family ensures that their child is receiving appropriate care that is consistent and routine. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked at a preschool/daycare for two years and absolutely loved it. At the center, I was able to work with ages ranging from 0-6 years. I recently cared for a special needs little girl and watch my nephews when I can. I have babysat for a couple of other families as well. Aside from these littles, I have grown up keeping an eye on my cousins and little sister. I have also have experience tutoring students in math (algebra/geometry) and english.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love watching their creativity be showcased. Whether it be to build a fort to watch a movie, build a castle out of kinetic sand, drawing pictures, or even build towers out of legos. I think it’s important to let them discover their interests and adapt to their needs. I want to encourage them to play to their strengths and understand that through hard work, they can accomplish anything and be who they want to be.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Building a bond, having trust, maintaining safety, and being culturally sensitive are the most important things to me. It’s important not only to build this base with the children, but primarily the families as a whole. These individuals are relying on me to care for their children while they are away. I want them to know that they can trust me to care for some of the most special and important people in their lives.

My experience with special needs children...

I am currently working with a little girl who has autism. She is a sweetheart and always makes me smile. I believe my nephew might have sensory issues. I have been working with him on processing his emotions and expressing them in a healthy way. I know basic ASL so I often will teach infants and toddlers basic signs in hopes that they can communicate their needs and gain an aspect of independence.

The most important part about being a nanny...

‘y favorite moment from working with children happens to be related to the little girl I am watching who has Autism. I dressed up as Moana and she was Snow White. She was so happy to see that I looked like Moana. We sang Moana songs in the car and whenever she saw a dog, she called for Moana to come save her. She still calls me Moana sometimes but seeing the joy on her face, I couldn’t ask for anything more.
