Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a part-time babysitter throughout my four years at Barnard. In that time, I worked with four families all based in the UWS or UES. The first family had two children - a 4-year-old girl and a 6-month-old boy. The second family had one 6-year-old boy. The third family had a 4 year-old boy. And the fourth family I worked for were Columbia University Professors who had three children - 6, 9, and 13. For all families I picked up children from their school, commuted to afterschool activities or organized park time. I supported homework and did some tutoring. I also fed the kids, sometimes eating out and sometimes cooking, did some light housework and grocery shopping, and supported bedtime routines depending on how late parents were coming home. I also have two years of experience in Boston (upon graduating). I worked with an Ethiopian family with a son (13) and daughter (11), one of whom I helped with speech therapy in English and Amharic. And another family with a 3-year-old son.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Ensuring that the children I'm working with feel safe and comfortable at all times! I love speaking with children, exploring what's on their minds and imagination, and allowing children to feel heard. I think nanny's play an important role as an extension of parents but also a friend to the child/children we're working with.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience working with children with ADHD and ADD, as well as children with some hearing loss and speech impediments. Personally in my own family, as well as with children I have nannied.
