I have been babysitting for 5 years since I was 16 years old. I have nannied for two families. I am great with children. I have babysit children from ages 1-13 so I am comfortable with a variety of ages. I worked in a summer camp and a daycare and I also helped to care of my two younger cousins since they were born while their Mom obtained her nursing degree. I worked for two other families. I can do pick ups and drop offs, help with homework, I'm a great cook and I also do household duties and I love to have fun. I have babysat babies and children from infant to 12-13 years. I have history working with children who were sick, twins, children who are special needs, as well as teething babes and keeping them overnights. I also worked at a day camp for the 3 years with the youngest campers who are 2 1/2 years old and I previously worked with the 5-year-olds there as well. I enjoy learning about the children and what they like as well as teaching them new things and helping parents with things like potty training. I have taken culinary, previously for two years and love making desserts. I wouldn't mind having the children make cakes and things with me sometime if they are old enough and parents don't mind. I also don't mind going outside and doing things with the kids or even painting or watching a movie. I would love to have a good relationship with the families. I am CPR certified. I volunteered at a Company. I was also a swim instructor for ages 2months and up.
I am looking for something Monday thru Friday and long term I have worked other temporary nanny and babysitting jobs but now that I have graduated college and have alot more time I would love something more long term. I am available to start as soon as possible

We’re looking for a family who wants to nanny share but is willing to drop off at our house. We are able to start nanny sharing Aug.6. Our nanny cares for our son (3 months) daily, and picks up our daughter from school and supports with her in the afternoons. We have intense work schedules so don’t want to drop off at another house but would be willing to host another infant. We have double strollers, toys, etc due to our current kids. Our nanny takes our son out to a lot of activities and maintains an active day with him, including taking him for walks, taking him to our backyard, and taking him to sing-alongs. She speaks fluent Spanish and is speaking in Spanish to our son.

We love our nanny, Shelly, and you will, too!!! We are an artist and a writer with a happy, outgoing 2.5-yr-old daughter who loves playing with kids of all ages. She will be going to the Smith St. Maternelle in September from 9-2:30 five days a week, and we are looking for a nanny share from 2:30-6:30 or 7:00. Shelly is either looking for someone who needs mornings/early afternoons (8:00-1:30ish, depending on how far you live from Henry St. and 1st Pl.), or she can care for your child all day and you can get a discount on the last 4 hours of the day, plus school holidays and vacations.

Shelly has been working for us since our daughter was 5 months old and we couldn't be happier -- she is so warm and loving and smart and fun (our daughter will often tell us that Shelly is her best friend)! Also always on time, good communication, all that stuff. She has a great network of other nannies in the neighborhood and there are always activities, trips, parties, crafts, etc.

A couple of Shelly's nanny friends are caring for baby siblings as well as toddlers, so if you have a baby, this might be ideal.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Brooklyn, NY

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Brooklyn Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Brooklyn? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Brooklyn?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in NY? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
