Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
14 months as a residential caregiver at a group home (7 girls in our group, ages 6-16), two years teaching school (7th-12th grade), 4 months with 3-4 at a daycare, plus lots of quality time babysitting siblings, nieces, and nephews of all ages. I love working with young people!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Reading stories, baking/cooking, singing, blowing bubbles, art/craft projects, going outside, riding bikes, going for a walk, playing in the rain (if it's warm enough), teaching life skills (potty training, getting dressed, age appropriate risk assessment, cleaning, setting the table, taking care of pets . . . there's always something new, exciting, and useful to learn!) . . . The one thing I will. not. do. is make screens a normal part of daily life. There is a WORLD, indoors and outdoors, to explore and enjoy and "conquer."
My experience with special needs children...
My experience with special needs is limited, but I have found that with a little time to research the condition we're working with I can usually get comfortable helping a child navigate the world as they experience it pretty quickly--maybe because I myself have some special needs. (AuDHD [heavy on the AdHD side of things] and no vision in the right eye) They haven't stopped me from being a capable adult, but I have had to learn various work arounds.
