A little bit about me

My name is Barbara Catalina, but usually I go by Cathy because it's easier for kids:) I have been taking care of kids for over a decade now and loved every minute of it. Professionally I have worked in two different children shelter's here in San Antonio but before that I volunteered and interned in Communities in School and other children's shelters in Texas. During my job as direct care staff in children's shelters I took care of anywhere between 1-20 kids at a time, ages ranging from 0-18yrs old. I am a natural with children and have endless amount of patience and care for kids which is what led me to pursuit giving my attention and love to kids in foster care. Although I loved my jobs in children's shelter I am now putting my expertise towards building that bond with children I nanny. Due to my past jobs I am also easily able to do sibling groups with ease, but either way whether you have 1 or 5 kids I will make sure we all have the time of our lives together.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Worked in The Children's Shelter, and in St Peters St Josephs children's home as direct care staff.
Nanny to an infant baby girl for 3 months.
Experience with large sibling groups.
Have been babysitting since I was 14 years old.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Some indoor activities I enjoy doing with kids include arts and crafts, diys, making forts, dress up, imaginative play, and a lot more. I love teaching them how to braid and do their hair, as well as care/paint their nails. Outdoor play is much more fun in my opinion, the kiddos I've taken care of have always loved making fairy houses, potions, water sensory days, cooking in "mud kitchen", and with this Texas heat of course a pool day is in order!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Forming a bond with the kids I take care of. I always believed that it takes a village to raise a child and I want my kiddos to remember their childhood as the best time of their life.

My experience with special needs children...

I have taken care of dozens of kids with autism, their ages ranging from 2-18yrs old, and them falling anywhere in the spectrum with some being verbal while other being non-verbal. I have also taken care of kids with down syndrome, their ages being 2-8yrs old.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my most memorable moments with my kiddos was stargazing with them and me explaining planets, stars, asteroids, and even constellations to them and when it was time to go inside a little girl refused to because she didn't want "the moment to end".
