My experience with special needs children...

I worked in a program for children with non-verbal communication skills and have ASD.(Ages 3-6)
Working in a classroom with children who are non verbal and have ASD. (Ages 3-5)
Occasionally taking care of older teenagers/ 41 year old when family has a gathering. (Mentally much younger/ ASD)

The most important part about being a nanny...

Wiping the tears away from the 41 year old, on the spectrum that has sudden sad moments, and comforting him that all will be ok.
As he holds on to my hand, I remind him how ok it is to cry and he says:“ok“ and looks up at me and says:“ok“
