A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Blessed, a responsible, patient, and dependable Psychology student at Penn State University with a strong passion for working with children. I have several years of hands-on childcare experience caring for younger siblings, cousins, and family friends’ children, along with experience tutoring, helping with homework, and working at a summer camp.

I’m also involved in child-focused psychology research centered on learning and child development, which has strengthened my understanding of how to create supportive and positive environments for children. Families would describe me as attentive, caring, trustworthy, and easy to communicate with. I genuinely enjoy helping children feel safe, engaged, supported, and encouraged while giving parents peace of mind knowing their children are in good hands.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Relevant experience where I also cared for children includes babysitting my younger siblings, cousins, and family friends’ children, where I handled daily routines like meals, bedtime, and transportation to activities, helped with homework and tutoring (especially reading and basic school subjects), and planned simple activities like games, crafts, and outdoor play to keep them engaged. I also worked at a summer camp through the Ingersoll Community Center, where I supervised groups of children, helped lead structured activities, managed behavior in a positive way, and made sure kids stayed safe and included. In addition, I’ve supported children through tutoring and have spent the past year working in a psychology research lab focused on child development and learning, which has strengthened my understanding of how to support children’s attention, learning, and behavior in real-world settings.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Activities I enjoy doing with children include going to the library for story time and reading programs, visiting children’s museums like the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and spending time at local parks and playgrounds. I also enjoy attending children’s workshops such as art, science, and STEM activities. At home, I like doing hands-on crafts, baking simple recipes, building projects, playing educational games, and helping with homework and reading in a fun, supportive way.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a babysitter, to me, is creating a safe, supportive, and comfortable environment where children feel understood and cared for. From my own experience babysitting my younger siblings, cousins, and family friends’ children, I’ve learned that every child is different, so patience, attention, and flexibility matter a lot. I focus on really being present with the child, whether that’s helping with homework, calming them down when they’re frustrated, or keeping them engaged with fun and meaningful activities. Having also worked at a summer camp and been involved in child-focused psychology research, I’ve seen how important consistency, encouragement, and positive attention are in helping children feel confident and secure.

My experience with special needs children...

I have some experience working with children with a variety of conditions and disabilities through my time at a summer camp through the Ingersoll Community Center. While I was not specifically assigned as a special needs aide, I worked closely with children who had different developmental, behavioral, and physical needs in group settings. This experience helped me learn how to be patient, flexible, and attentive to each child’s individual needs, and how to provide support while ensuring they felt included, safe, and engaged in activities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite babysitting moment was when I was babysitting a child who was really frustrated with their homework and kept saying they “couldn’t do it.” Instead of rushing through it, I sat with them and broke the work down into smaller, easier steps and used examples they could relate to. At first they were still unsure, but after a few tries something clicked and they got the answer on their own. The shift in their face from frustration to excitement was the best part—they started smiling, got more confident, and even wanted to try more problems without help. That moment stood out to me because it showed me how patience and encouragement can completely change how a child sees themselves and what they’re capable of.
