Manhattan, New York$11.80/hr  |  < 1 yr experience
My name is Jazilynn and I am originally from Redfield, South Dakota. I am planning on moving to New York; but would like to have a job lined up before I make the big transition. I’ve been in the nanny business for an accumulative of 2 years. I have babysat for local school children throughout high school. I have also babysat my 4 younger siblings throughout the years. My youngest sister is currently 12 and I enjoy helping her figure out life. I am currently working at a facility with adolescents who have autism and mental health disorders. This job has by far been the most eye opening! Everyday I learn something new; which I enjoy!
I am planning on attending nursing school, with a goal of working in pediatrics. I have a passion for children and can’t wait to someday have some of my own!

If you have any questions, feel free to message me!

The Kanpetch Family
& Sandra Daniels
Manhattan, New York$20/hr  |  1 kid
My daughter will be 5 months old when we want to start the nanny share just after July 4th. We have lived in Central Harlem for 6 years and are both designers.

Sandra is great! As I was referred to her by a close friend of mine who had Sandra as her nanny for her son from 3 months through 2 years. I was working with her when she hired Sandra and I remember her raving about her then as well. Sandra has been a nanny all her life and loves kids. She has twin boys and a girl who are all grown adults now. She has a background in early childhood development and continues to take classes to keep up with what's current.

Sandra requires a 40 hour week but at the moment my husband and I only need 3 days a week through the end of this year. Currently we would like to have her Tues, Weds, and Thurs so the family we are looking to share with would share Sandra Mondays and Fridays but our Monday can be flexible and swapped for any of the other three days. She's on the books and charges $17/hour. If for whatever reason the family we share her with is not able to continue then it would be the responsibility of that family to find a replacement family as it would effect her hours and income.
The McLarin Family
& Daniela Bastardo
Manhattan, New York$15/hr  |  2 kids
Daniela has been a part of our family for nearly four years. Due to our Owen moving on to FT preschool, we no longer have the need for a FT nanny. Daniela is truly a wonderful young woman so we are helping her land a new role with a great family. She is seeking a FT role either directly with a family or in a share-role. Please let us know if you'd like to chat and know more!

I just had a baby boy in March and had help from day ONE with Jacqueline. She has been enormously helpful, but now that he is three months we are looking for a Turkish-speaking nanny. She is looking for a new full time position. If you are looking for a full time nanny, Jacqueline would make a great fit!

We're seeking a family to do a share with our nanny at our home in the East Village. Our (Spanish/English) speaking wonderful nanny has been with us for several years. She's done a nanny share up until my now 3 yr old toddler started attending preschool with another family at our home. (they are available for reference) We're looking for a share starting as soon as possible with our infant (born July 2019) at our apt. Please feel free to reach out if there is any interest! More details as follows:

Rate: $10 per family per hour. Rate listed on this site is $16 p/h for single child.

Days: M-F (flexible)
Hrs: 8am-6pm (flexible), for instance if you need to come later/want to go out for date night totally fine. Our last share we had nanny stay late every Thurs. so that we could reserve that as a night we know we can be out for dinner. I am very open to having hours run later as well. 8am is earliest she can start as she drops her two sons at school.

Baby Food: Nanny worked for many years in restaurants, true passion for cooking so cooks diverse, organic baby foods & full meals. Toddler now eats everything which is great. Share Fam can contribute to baby food costs or bring their own.

Language: Spanish, US-born Ecuadorian nanny speaks Spanish to our children and 3 yr. old completely fluent now. She also speaks English fluently if this is a preference.

How to Find a Babysitter in New York, NY

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, PLUS, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in New York, NY

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in New York can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

New York Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in New York?
  • Do you have a New York driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
