Olivia Spencer
Manhattan, New York$25/hr  |  11 yrs experience
Hey! I hope you are all staying sane and safe during this troubling time. But that's where I come in. To make your lives a little LESS stressful. My name is Olivia Spencer and I'm originally from Princeton, NJ. I know I would be a great fit for your family because I am a warm-hearted human being with a true passion to help out. I have been working with inner city kids my whole life and I adore it. I know just how important it is for children to have someone in their corner and I hope to be that person for your children. Though I may be young, my previous experience shows that I'm a dedicated, hard worker. I'm a great cook and a bit of a clean freak-so cooking and cleaning are no problem. Due to a serious car accident I endured while walking, I no longer like to drive but I manage with the use of personal drivers. By choosing me to supervise your children you will be providing a loving, and stable atmosphere for them while I take all the pressure off of household chores off your back.

Manhattan, New York$15/hr  |  2 kids
Daniela has been a part of our family for nearly four years. Due to our Owen moving on to FT preschool, we no longer have the need for a FT nanny. Daniela is truly a wonderful young woman so we are helping her land a new role with a great family. She is seeking a FT role either directly with a family or in a share-role. Please let us know if you'd like to chat and know more!
The Kanpetch Family
& Sandra Daniels
Manhattan, New York$20/hr  |  1 kid
My daughter will be 5 months old when we want to start the nanny share just after July 4th. We have lived in Central Harlem for 6 years and are both designers.

Sandra is great! As I was referred to her by a close friend of mine who had Sandra as her nanny for her son from 3 months through 2 years. I was working with her when she hired Sandra and I remember her raving about her then as well. Sandra has been a nanny all her life and loves kids. She has twin boys and a girl who are all grown adults now. She has a background in early childhood development and continues to take classes to keep up with what's current.

Sandra requires a 40 hour week but at the moment my husband and I only need 3 days a week through the end of this year. Currently we would like to have her Tues, Weds, and Thurs so the family we are looking to share with would share Sandra Mondays and Fridays but our Monday can be flexible and swapped for any of the other three days. She's on the books and charges $17/hour. If for whatever reason the family we share her with is not able to continue then it would be the responsibility of that family to find a replacement family as it would effect her hours and income.

I have a friendly, energetic 23month old daughter and a new born boy (not part of nanny share right now). Hoping to find a fun family that wants to have a safe and loving environment for our toddlers.
I’m on maternity leave until end of February, so wanting about 4hrs per day (mornings) 8:30 or 9a until 12:30/1p for now and then full time come February. Also, once I’m back to work we’d want our son to be part of the childcare. He will be 5.5m at that time.
The Nikolova Family

I am a teacher so there will be some days (holidays, breaks, etc.) when we don't need nanny care. We also have a 50 lb. hound mix who will need taken for two, 30 min. walks each day and will need the nanny to vacuum/wipe down surfaces daily.

The Harris Family
Manhattan, New York$18/hr  |  1 kid
My spouse and I will both be back at work by February and we’re looking for a nanny share to begin at that time. Our little guy is just over two months old now and will be about five months old by then. We would need coverage to begin by 9 am so we can get to work on time. We both tend to work late, so an end time of around 7 pm would be ideal.

How to Find a Babysitter in New York, NY

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, PLUS, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in New York, NY

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in New York can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

New York Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in New York?
  • Do you have a New York driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
