A little bit about me…

When I lived in NY I was a Licensed Family Home Day Care Provider. I ran my own Day Care from my home for two years. The children's ages in my care ranged from three months to four years old. I also handled a few after-school children. Two of them had Attention Deficit Disorders. I am currently with a family of 2 children ages 7 1/2 and 5.

A little bit about me…

I assisted my mother in raising my sister's three children. My sister is bi-polar and was not the most adept at handling it. Caring for them since the youngest was born until the youngest was 7 and the oldest was 10 when I stopped helping care for them. Since 2009, I've worked with children ranging from age 6-18 at a Children's Theatre, teaching classes and working on productions with children, both on stage as a performer and back stage as a director.

A little bit about me…

I come from a big family and since I was a little girl I’ve been volunteering to take care of my siblings, and relative’s children. I think the first diaper I changed was at age 6! I have a natural chemistry with children; I love them and them love me, so my experience began a long time ago. Professionally, my journey as a care giver began on January 2008; that’s when I decided to become an Au Pair and come to the USA. My program lasted for 2 years and it was a wonderful experience. I took care of a family of four siblings for my first year, with ages from 5 (twins) to 12. It was very hectic since I was responsible for them since wake up until bed time. Neighbor’s children were always around as well, so I can say it was a “full house”:) Another challenge was that some of the kids had medical conditions, so I was responsible for medication as well. On my second year I took care of babies, 3, 4 and 6 year-old children. After the end of my Au Pair program, I’ve been working as a nanny for the past two years and a half. I take care of a 7 year-old boy and a 9 year-old girl. I love this family very much, and it’s going to be hard to say goodbye. I also do a lot of babysitting, we live in a gated community and I watch a lot of children. I’ve became friends with many families and sometimes the moms and I go out together. During this last 5 years, I learned a lot, I had amazing experiences- and difficult ones too. I can firmly say I know A LOT about children! I consider myself a super nanny :) It might seem a little pretentious but I’m good at what I do!

A little bit about me…

Hi there! I just recently graduated from Wagner College and I am now living in Astoria. I love children, I think it is very important for children to have a positive role model in life, someone they can trust and also have fun with. I love sports and the outdoors, but I also love theatre and the arts. I am very open to trying new things and usually have no problem in finding something fun to do/play. For the past 4 years I was the Director of Theater at a summer arts camp, leading games, teaching classes, and directing plays for children ages 4-16. On top of my camp experience, I coached U12 girls softball for 3 years. My team won the championship 2 out of those 3 years! :) I have been babysitting/nannying children for 9 years now and I am CPR/First Aid certified. I am extremely organized and a very hard worker, I love meeting new people and will fit in with almost any family!

What can I say? Wonderful! Full of good memories. Children taught me a great virtue, to be patient. They are so lovely and depend on our experience to teach them and guide them and love them, and of course meet the parents expectations.

A little bit about me…

I have worked numerous years as either a nanny or babysitter. I currently reside in NYC and am a nanny for a family with two children. I originally moved to NYC to work as a live-in nanny for one child. I still currently babysit for them on weeknights and weekends. Prior to moving to NYC I worked as a nanny for a family of three in Grand Rapids, MI. I have wonderful relationships with all families to this day. As of December 10th, I will be re-locating to Chicago to be closer to my family and some friends.

A little bit about me…

I have strong experience working with newborns to ages 10-11. I love being around and working with the little ones. Helping children learn, grow, and develop a healthy lifestyle by being aware of fun ways to boost and stimulate the mind and health (very big health foodie) are things I love to share. In return, I get all the satisfaction in the world from the many things I learn from working with new families and kids from one experience to the next. I started off at age 12 as a babysitter, and now at the age of 27, still love tending to children just as much as I did on the first gig. My most recent experience is tending to a newborn.

How to Find a Babysitter in Astoria, NY

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, PLUS, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in Astoria, NY

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in Astoria can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

Astoria Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in New York?
  • Do you have a New York driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
