I have been a paid caretaker for children since 19 years old, which has helped me drastically when it came time to start my own family. However I’ve been hands on with children since a young age, and took care of a baby for the first time at 14 years old, when my Aunt had surgery and couldn’t lift her daughter. I learned in that moment how much of a responsibility it is to care for little ones. And how much those interactions effect their growth and learning.
I am blessed with a 2, (almost 3) year old and she has had many cousins born into the world during those few years. While the mothers began returning back to work after the maternity leave ended, I would become the main source of daycare while they returned to the work force. I love interacting with children and feel it may be my career choice long term.
