Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Im big on coloring, puzzles, magnet tiles, fine motor skills and sensory play. Some of my favorite sensory play items are kinetic sand, Play-Doh and DIY creations made at home including slime, pom-poms and beans. Outdoor play is typically where most gross motor skills are worked on however I also enjoy nature and teaching children to sit and pause and enjoy what's around them. This seems to help greatly with emotional regulation. 2 to 3 times a day and a full day of care I try to incorporate reading, once in the morning after circle time and once before nap and finally when waking up from nap doing a book tour pointing to things in the book of discussing them with no reading pressure. I love functional pretend play, for example cooking in the kitchen, going to the store, classroom scenarios were children role switch by being the teacher, etc. I find this gives a good look into what the kiddo is actively absorbing and what to work on through play.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being their friend, someone they feel safe being themselves around while parents are occupied and providing developmentally appropriate support both emotional and physical through child-led play.

My experience with special needs children...

I have 2.5 years of experience working with children with special needs as a Behavior Technician. I was previously certified as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), with hands-on experience providing one-on-one support, implementing behavior plans, and supporting communication and regulation.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was driving home a six-year-old I care for. She said that her favorite days are Sunday and Monday cause that's when I watch her and she can see her favorite babysitter. I was sick the week prior and she told me she cried when she found out I was unavailable for care that day. It made my heart melt because I didn't realize how much of an impact I was making in less than eight hours a week.
