My mother fell ill soon after I graduated highschool. My sister was off at college and I had taken over the “mommy” role of the household. Caring for my younger siblings, taking care of dinners/packing lunches, feeding pets and general maintenance around the house.

The last family I worked for the children aged out and headed off to school. The day I left both boys sat on my feet, wet eyes and red cheeks refusing to let me leave. That day we sat on the kitchen floor and talked until it was time for bed. Their parents still come visit me to this day!
