25+ years experience in the Child Care field including Certified preschool/kindergarten teacher, Licensed Family Daycare Provider (CA), Arts and Crafts Instructor (summer camp ages 3-12), Infant Caregiver for the largest corporate daycare in the world, Nanny and babysitter, starting at age 11.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I have always been an avid reader and I love to read to children. I have a large library of children's classic story books and as a teacher have designed many lesson plans around classic children's literature.
I feel that outdoor play is important in developing gross motor skills and that being outside and active is a vital aspect in the health of children and adults alike. Communing with nature and all that it has to offer is not only therapeutic but a good way to introduce children to simple science concepts that they will continue to learn throughout their lives.
I do have a creative flair and in my free time I love painting, drawing, crafts, crochet, photography, digital film, scrapbooking, jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles and creative writing, to name a few. For several years, I also taught Arts and Crafts to summer campers ages preschool through 12 years old and so doing arts and crafts with young children comes naturally to me.

Understanding the family's needs is vital to forming a successful relationship. As a life-long teacher, I am used to needing to tackle the task of understanding the needs of 15-20 families and then starting from scratch with new families each September.

As a Lead Abbott Teacher for the Head Start program, I worked with children of various abilities and managed children's IEP profiles. I have worked with children with Downs Syndrome, Autism, Asperger's, language delays and deficits, Epilepsy and physical restrictions.

I stayed in touch with my families after I had to close down my licensed family daycare business in California due to our move to New Jersey. One of the Moms sent a card to me in the mail and relayed a story that touched my heart and stayed with me all these years. Her son, Case, was 4 when we moved. A year later, she was giving him a bath when he started talking about sharks. After relaying several detailed facts, she asked him, " Wow, Case, how do know so much about sharks?" Half expecting the answer to be related to one of his children's television programs or educational computer games, he nonchalantly replied, "Carolyn taught me."
