My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with 2 families whose children were both speech delayed and one child did not walk until late. I took the child who was walking late to the playground every single day, which helped immensely with strength and balance. With child who was speech delayed, I would get down on their level, pay attention to what they were interested in, interact and play with them while explaining what I was doing for example, “putting the lights on, rolling the play-doe, blowing bubbles, the dinosaur says roar.”
