More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked with Pre-school children for over 20 years. Over the last 2 years I have focused on working with children with developmental emotional and intellectual disabilities. I have worked with children from newborn infants to 19 years of age. While working in a preschool setting I have created and implemented daily and weekly curriculums. I included everything from fun art projects to science experiments. I am a firm believer in a STEAM approach with children and have found that exposure to the sciences and arts of the world builds a confident curious and independent individual. Health and Safety are my top priorities when caring for any child/student. Outside play and exploration are part of the every day routine.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy teaching children all the things. With working in the preschool setting for so long, I do tend to focus on fine and gross motor skills cognitive function and general education, ie: ABC's, 123's, shapes etc... however, I believe introducing advanced materials stimulate the brain and enhance their learning experience. Art and music are vital in learning. Plus it's always fun to see the view of the world around them, through their eyes. Physical activities and eating properly are great stepping stones in teaching children how to physically start to take care of themselves. Side note- Work-out Wednesdays are my favorite days. Building confidence and independence are 2 of my main goals with every lesson and activity I create.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is ensuring the well-being, health and safety of the child or children. My aunt use to say happy and healthy with rules and guidance is all children need. I believe in that.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with all ages of special needs kids. I've worked with Non-verbal, ADHD, ODD, and ID. I have been a Paraprofessional and a PCA while I was a Contracted employee for the IU13.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have so many wonderful memories of working with children, picking a favorite is difficult. However, I did completely enjoy doing overnights in Wayne for a single Mom. She had 2 wonderful kids, 2 years apart. One boy and one girl, the boy being oldest and he was also a diabetic. One Friday night, their mom went to work, and while their bedtime was 9 on weekends (unknown to the kids), I had permission to let them stay up late. We had everything set up in the living room to make blanket forts with snacks and movies and music. It was a blast dancing around and watching them geek out over being up later than their Mom would allow.
