A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Dani, and I am an actor in the city, but my first passion was education and childcare. I am a firm believer that there is nothing more important than prioritizing the formative years of a child’s life to set them up for the most success, both in their education and social lives with their peers. I am passionate about cultivating an environment where children feel safe and comfortable to live as their authentic selves under my care, and set up systems to further their education in the best way specific to each child. I understand how much trust a parent has to place in another adult to care for their children, and I do not take that responsibility for granted; it is of upmost importance that I am an aid in the development of each child’s success, and nothing feels better than knowing I had a part in shaping their bright futures!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

As an actor, I love playing improv games with the kids! It helps engage their imaginations, keep them off the screens, and sets them up for easy and creative problem solving on the spot. I love to play guitar for the kids and have sing along and karaoke sessions! I also have a large collection of board and card games. I have designed fun trivia games that are educational but not obvious about it, so they stay learning without it feeling like forced busy work. If screen time is allowed, I love to find team based games to help them learn how to collaborate with their peers in a fun way. Playing house is always a classic, and it helps prepare them for when they’re more capable of taking care of themselves in the future, and kids love to feel grown up (even though I love to encourage them to enjoy being a kid while they can!)

The most important part about being a nanny...

Always prioritizing the safety and comfortability of the child, and specializing each experience to each child’s different needs. It’s important to treat children as people, and they can go into their shells if they feel condescended to. You must find a balance of authority and friendship, know they’ll listen to you because they understand I have their best interest in mind. Each relationship with each kid is special, just as each kid is unique in their own way; what a wonderful thing!

My experience with special needs children...

Autism and ADHD run in my family, so I have lots of experience working with children of special needs. A lot of the kids in my family only trust me to spend time with them, and I’ve mastered finding the balance of engaging them without invading safe spaces and specializing the experience to each child, as special needs are not universal and each kid will require different methods of engaging their safe spaces and avoiding the buttons that make them uncomfortable. I also worked as a tutor in special needs classrooms and have cultivated a way to help progress the education of special needs students without overwhelming them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I remember babysitting my cousins for about a week as their parents were on vacation, and the first night they all had trouble sleeping as it was their first time away from mom and dad. To help them fall asleep, I played guitar and sung songs for as long as they needed. I sung their favorite Disney songs, then introduced them to some of my favorite musicals (kids especially love Into the Woods), and bands (Fleetwood Mac is always a big hit). It felt so special to share that art with them, and nobody is ever too old for a lullaby.

Hi! My name is Veranika and I am a student at Cornell University pursuing Bachelors of Architecture degree. I immigrated to New York City from Belarus and have been living here ever since.
