Being kind. Children are just learning how to navigate the world around them and they don’t know how to communicate their feelings and needs. I get that! I try to always be patient and nurturing, while also teaching them mindful ways to live and love others.
My experience with special needs children...
My younger brother (12 years younger than me, so I helped care for him from a very young age!) has autism, he is non-verbal, and is also epileptic. I have helped love and care for him all his life! I have also coached multiple children with a range of cognitive and physical handicapabilities with success and enjoyment.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love when children realize that you (an adult) also have a mommy and daddy somewhere. I love to say things like “my mom likes this shirt” and kids will be like “your mom?! She likes red shirts?! Wow!”
