More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Interactions with children and families are a common thread throughout all of my work history. In Chicago, I worked at a small urban ecology museum beside the lake, led a Girl Scout troop, planned children's parties, taught preschool and kindy and worked with immigrant populations as an English language conversation partner and tutor. In Philadelphia, I tutored many children (privately and in Kumon centers) in English and French literacy. My time in Minnesota was spent with 5 year old preschoolers, with a roster of 20 k-3 struggling readers, and with private tutoring families. Here in the Bay Area, I began my working towards licensing the apartment I lived in to be a home daycare, moved on to teaching at one of the Stanford campus preschools and eventually returned to nannying for a single family. Prior to Covid, I often also provided date night, evening care, weekend, back-up, event care and tutoring. During the pandemic, I focused my attention on supporting other domestic workers.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Every child is different and entitled to his or her own preferences. However, I do encourage nanny children to be out of doors in most types of weather for several hours each day. I am not suited for parents who are very anxious about their children being permitted to play in the yard, at the park or get their clothing soiled during an activity (whether it takes place indoors or out). Many children are messy, and as a care and education veteran, I accept that making a mess is as much a part of the learning and creative process as cleaning one up! I believe in using these moments to illustrate cause and effect (if you make a mess you will clean it), teaching autonomy, resilience and curiosity. I also shun gendered division of activities: all children play and create, which means that boys are entitled to play with dolls and kitchens exactly as much as girls are entitled to tools and vehicles. As an adult, I am as comfortable with a drill as I am with a sewing machine, and encourage this
The most important part about being a nanny...
Is to be responsive to the cues of the children in your care. I often remind parents in interviews that my primary relationship is going to be with the children; they are the focal point of my attention during my time with them.
Additionally, a crucial part of nannying for me is to establish boundaries around my own energy during my time with a family. I don't perform domesitic services for families during my time there, because I need 1) to reserve energy to care for my own home at the end of the day and 2) to ensure that while your children rest their little bodies, I rest my mind. As a culture, we speak a great deal about practicing self care, but actually engage in it very infrequently. I try to teach an awareness and expression of my body's physical needs and my emotions by modeling communication about them, and giving children the vocabulary to express their own as well.

Babysitter Available in Mountain View, CA: Brynn P.
Hi! My name is Brynn and I am an adventurous and creative 19 year old with a love for working with children. As an older sister, I've been caring for children from a young age and I quickly began to babysit for my neighbors and family friends.
I have also been tutoring for 6 years and, if needed, would love to support your child with their homework or additional learning, especially in subjects such as Spanish, math, and science. Additionally, I have experience volunteering in an elementary school as well as in sports-based summer camps.
My focus is on giving children a fun and safe space to learn, play, and be themselves! I love spending time outdoors by going on walks and to the playground, as well as having fun creatively through pretend-play, crafts, and toys. In my personal time, I enjoy spending time with my pets (a bunny and a leopard gecko), cooking and baking, reading, and hiking with my friends.
