The most important part about being a nanny...
I think every kid is so different that the most important thing changes from child to child. For some it's maintaining their structure and routine, for some it's having someone listen to them while they talk about all their boring kid stuff, and for some it's me leaving them well enough alone. I try to go to each gig with an open mind and zero expectations.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children with psychiatric disorders and behavioral issues, but not physically disabled children. However I am open to caring for any and all children (within my capabilities.)
The most important part about being a nanny...
Camp counseling is my summer gig of choice, and my favorite thing ever is seeing kids come back to camp after I haven't seen them all year. Some of them are shy and wait for me to greet them, but some run up to me and are so excited to see me again. Knowing that I am making a positive impact on the kids' lives makes me feel like I'm putting a little bit of good in this dark cold world.
