My experience with special needs children...
During my junior year of high school, I participated in a program called GLOmies. This was a program that encouraged the inclusion to all students, no matter their background. We spent our time playing games and hanging out with students that had all different kinds of disabilities. Our main goal was to make the students feel included and comfortable while in our company. I really loved this experience because since we spent so much time with the students, some of them started coming up to me outside of class and sparking conversations by themselves. It felt really good knowing kids who were normally quiet and kept to themselves felt comfortable enough with me to see me as a friend and a person they feel safe with.
