More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
In 2021 I worked at my old elementary school. I was brought in to be the art teacher for 2nd-8th grades but eventually took on the roll as a long-term ELA sub for the 6th-8th grade classes. I also ran an art camp over the summer and took on substitute teaching jobs in late summer/early fall of that year. This was one of the best experiences of my life. Kids really just want to feel seen, and if I can be the one to make them feel that way I will gladly take up that roll.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I thoroughly encourage a wide variety of different activities in a child's life, from sports to cooking to exploring the great outdoors. I enjoy figuring out what a child is passionate about and pushing them to think critically and creatively. I love teaching art and making fun crafts with kids and frankly that's an area I excel at, but I find the greatest joy in encouraging the activities that bring them joy. One of my students that I had back in 2021 preferred to play chess during recess. When no other peer or teacher would take him up on an offer to play, he approached me and we ended up spending multiple different recesses playing matches. The best part was seen how much happier and more open he was the more we were able to play a match, and it ultimately allowed me to gain his trust and become a better teacher to him in the classroom.
My experience with special needs children...
I learned in my teaching experience that I work very well with neurodivergent kids. As someone with late-diagnosed ADHD, I understand how difficult it is trying to navigate a world that wasn't created with you in mind. I also understand the patience and kindness required to guide neurodivergent kids to discover the tools in life that actually work in their favor. Children who don't understand a seemingly simple question or pick up on social cues are looking for people to validate their experiences and help them decipher the ways in witch the world can be confusing and overwhelming.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As a kid, I loved having tea parties with my mom. She'd pull out my little blue china tea set and and we'd have afternoon tea time. When I was nannying for two little girls I had worked with for a while I mentioned this and they just had to have a tea party with me. So, the next time I came over I brought my blue china tea set and we had evening tea together. They kept trying to sneak more sugar into their cups until it ended in the sugar monster chasing them around the house. I love that I was able to share with them something that was so impactful to my own childhood.
