I am a site supervisor to an aftercare program currently, but I have also been a camp and aftercare counselor for 7 years, a nanny for 4, and 3 years of a research assistant in a research lab that works with children with ASD and other developmental disabilities doing in person and telehealth sessions.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love teaching kids how to cook or having them prepare their favorite snacks with me. I also love doing arts and crafts and different at home STEM projects. I enjoy reading with kids and going outside and getting lots of fresh air.

Creating meaningful connections with the kids and parents as well as giving the kid(s) the opportunity to practice autonomy!
My experience with special needs children...
I have been a 1:1 counselor with children on the spectrum, have severe ADHD, ODD, etc. as well as been apart of a Research lab in my undergrad that focuses on children on the spectrum and other developmental disabilities who may experience severe behavior (Applied Behavior Analysis). This was in a clinical setting where the goal was to generalize the behavior change to the child's natural environment. Not only did I do clinical sessions with them, but I also have three years of research within the lab taking primary and reliability data, piloting surveys, doing literature reviews as well as having the opportunity to present data at a research conference that I helped collect and organize for a doctoral dissertation about services provided for children on the spectrum.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nannying moment is creating movie nights for my kids with their favorite snacks, blankets/ forts, and favorite movie and making it an experience for them! Bonus points if we got to sing during the movie!
