A little bit about me

Hi, I’m Emily Schorman! I’m 24 years old and have always had a passion for working with children. I currently work as a substitute teacher in local schools, and before moving back to Michigan, I taught Pre-K for the Boys & Girls Club in Tennessee. I recently returned to my hometown and am excited to continue supporting, teaching, and caring for kids.

Childcare has been part of my life from a young age—I babysat throughout high school and college, gaining experience with all ages while developing patience, creativity, and strong communication skills. I’m especially passionate about child development, from fine-motor skills and early literacy to social-emotional growth. I’m compassionate, dependable, and committed to creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for every child I care for.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I taught Pre-K for the Boys & Girls Club in Tennessee, working with ages 2–5 in a blended classroom with both special education and general education students. I’ve also babysat and nannied for children from newborns to 10 years old, giving me experience with a wide range of developmental stages. I currently work as a substitute teacher, supporting students from elementary through high school.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like to engage children in developmentally appropriate activities that support their growth in all areas. I love doing things that touch on many different skills—like physical play (outdoor games, movement activities, and fine-motor tasks), creative projects (arts, crafts, sensory play), and educational activities (reading, puzzles, early literacy, and hands-on learning). I also enjoy activities that build social-emotional skills, such as cooperative games and pretend play. My goal is always to provide fun, meaningful experiences that help each child learn and grow.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is building trust by creating a safe, nurturing environment where children feel supported, understood, and free to grow. When kids feel secure and cared for, they can learn, explore, and develop with confidence—and parents can have peace of mind knowing their child is in reliable, compassionate hands.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with special needs children through multiple settings. While teaching Pre-K for the Boys & Girls Club in Tennessee, I worked in a blended classroom with both general education and special education students ages 2–5. I learned how to adapt activities, support sensory needs, and help each child learn at their own pace.

As a substitute teacher, I often work as a paraprofessional in special education classrooms—primarily in elementary schools, but I’ve also supported middle and high school students. This has given me experience with a variety of needs, learning styles, and accommodations. I’m patient, flexible, and committed to helping every child feel safe, included, and supported.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was watching one of the babies I worked with start to learn to walk. I didn’t witness his first steps but after not seeing him for a couple weeks I came back and he was taking small steps! Moments like that, where you get to witness growth and celebrate accomplishments are the most rewarding parts of being a nanny.

Full-Time Child Care Provider Available in Richmond, MI: Jessica P.

I am a 39 year old mother of 2 teenagers. I was a stay at home mom for 12 years and became a nanny almost 4 years ago when both my girls could stay home after school by themselves for a little bit. I have been with 1 family sisnxe then. From the time their baby was 3 months old and their oldest was 2 years old. Her youngest will be starting preschool in the fall so I am looking for a new family to help. I can clean and cook as needed. The older child I cared for was non-verbal and autistic. I helped get him on a schedule that promoted improvement and learning. I worked closely with his special needs teacher over the past 2 years. I have 2 teenage daughters and I am looking for a job that offers some flexibility. My oldest plays varsity volleyball and softball and I would like to be able to attend her games when in season. My youngest plays jv volleyball so her games will be the same as her sisters. I can start the 3rd week of August when my 2 children I care for now start school.
