A little bit about me

Hi there! My name is Emmalyn, I am 27 years old, and I have spent years caring for children ages 3 months to 12 years old. I studied linguistics in college with a particular focus on early language acquisition and I love helping kiddos learn to communicate. From babbling babies to older children learning to effectively communicate their wants and needs, each milestone is something to be celebrated, and it is a privilege to get to support them along the way. A core part of my approach to childcare is the belief that children deserve to be excited to learn. I love to include kiddos in projects, whether that's a craft, educational experiment, or helping with things around the house, any activity can be made into a fun learning experience with the right mindset. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Most recently I was the director of a summer camp for children ages 8-17, but I have also been providing childcare for children from infancy to 12 years of age off and on for over 10 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I generally prefer outdoor activities for children, walks, parks and playgrounds, gardening, riding bikes/scooters, or even playing sports (though I'm personally only any help when it comes to t-ball/baseball/softball). That being said, I also love a good indoor activity whether that is an at home science experiment, reading books, having a dance party to their favorite songs, building forts, or just including them in housework (afterall its never too early to learn how to take care of oneself), when necessary. Personally, I love to cook, garden, and read so I particularly love getting to share the joys of those hobbies with kiddos.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience caring for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I believe children with these diagnoses are often overlooked and under-supported and it is my privilege to provide them a patient and safe space to work through whatever big feelings they may be experiencing and to teach them the power they have to advocate and accommodate for themselves.
