Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a camp counselor and clown teacher at Camp Winnarainbow for the last 7 years for children ages 6-17. Camp counseling involved everyday activities and around the clock care -- I was responsible for 12-14 children at all times, 24 hours a day. We help guide children through their day with a sense of independence, from waking up and getting ready for the day, to mealtimes, to directing free time, and all the way through bedtime and overnight supervision.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love walking in the park, going to museums, biking, and finding swings and playgrounds to play on. When the weather isn't as nice, I love working with my hands! I used to be an art teacher for children and developmentally delayed adults; I have experience teaching and guiding arts and crafts activities that include clay, collage, coloring, painting, and more! Crafts don't always have to be messy! I also love to bake.

The most important part of being a nanny is treating the children with the respect they deserve! We are their everyday routine -- it is important to speak to them like they're human beings, to encourage them to ask questions, and ensure they are comfortable being themselves around you.

My favorite nanny moment is one that developed over the last two years -- the family I was working with had an apartment right on the Hudson River where you could watch the sunset every night. When I started working with the kids, I immediately pointed out the sunset and how lucky they were that they got such a lovely view of it; a consistent clear view of the sunset in the city is hard to come by! At first, they shrugged me off. After two years of encouraging them to appreciate the sunset, an evening came when Ben (10 y/o) tapped my shoulder and asked ME to look at how beautiful the sunset was. THAT was a win.
