Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I believe all a kid needs to have fun is a good imagination and a loving environment!
-Playgrounds! Can't go wrong with a game of Sandman!
-Hiking and exploring the beauty of nature
-Illustrating picture books! Kids are so creative and as an Education major I delight in seeing their development.
-Cooking! I'm a Korean food specialist and enjoy hands-on learning.
-Baking! I design pies and pastries when I'm not studying for classes.
-Going for walks and narrating the whole time; imaginative kids love hanging out with me! Babies also have a fun time being held by me as we walk!
-I am mostly against kids' use of technology, but I advocate for playing music and audiobooks and helping kids to focus better.
-Board games are an excellent way for kids to learn teamwork, sportsmanship and critical thinking.
-Eco-friendly arts and crafts!
-One bouncy ball or balloon can entertain kids for hours, and I always have many games on hand to go with it!

The most important part about being a nanny...
...is understanding that children are inherently a gift. I realized this when my college dorm floor received the gift of a piano one day. As I played it in the lounge, I thought of how happy it made me simply because it was there. It did not matter that it was dusty and a bit out of tune; the fact that it was a piano was more than enough. It is of the utmost importance that families and nannies remember their children and infants are more precious than anything in this world.
My experience with special needs children...
I have volunteered with College Church (IL)'s Friday Friends ministry, and also volunteered overseas at a restaurant/church for the hearing impaired. I just completed my first year of public school teaching wherein one of my classes was 1/2 SPED students, and I attended each necessary IEP meeting, accommodated each student according to their plan, and ensured equal and equitable treatment for all of them. I loved these experiences and through them have learned the gifts of joy, patience and humility.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I lived overseas, I nannied for a precocious, incredibly imaginative South African toddler. He and I pretended to be pirates for hours, and all we needed was a small playhouse outside! (He was First Mate Blue Jacket and I was the Fearsome Cap'n Black Jacket; it was cold that day). He is almost seven now and his artistic talent has only grown. I am so thankful that I got to be one of the cheerleaders in his life that inspired him to keep being creative!
