More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've worked as a lead afterschool teacher for the past three years, teaching reading, some mathematics, history, religious studies, and art. I've also worked as a summer camp counselor at arts summer camps and had full-time summer camp counselor training.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing any sort of arts related activity with kids! This includes jewelry making, collages, ceramics, painting, sewing, and more traditional fine arts. I also enjoy helping kids explore their boundless creativity, helping them make comics or write stories, reading books with them, and cooking with kids.
The most important part about being a nanny...
For me, the most important thing about working with kids as an adult is being a safe space for them to come to with anything. I like to establish an understanding of mutual respect, trust, and care, and meeting kids where they're at so that they're guaranteed to feel safe, seen, and heard.
My experience with special needs children...
As a teacher I've worked with students on the Autism spectrum and students with ADHD. I'm good at assisting kids with dealing with anger, anxiety, and energy that they're uncertain of how to handle.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As an afterschool teacher I help kids deal with a lot of Big Emotions--once I helped a nine year old deal with her head hurting from too much noise and the stress of having a long day by telling her to press her fist against mine and transfer all her bad energy into me. (It's a trick that works with kids and adults alike; it's a form of grounding yourself without needing much from another person.) I sat with her, talked with her, and helped her find a center core of security until her stress level was at a two rather than at an eight. Two weeks later, I was teaching her class and she came up next to me and held out her fist. Reflexively I held out mine in return, and she pressed her fist into mine as hard as she could, said "two," and walked away. Realizing I'd helped this kid figure out how to ask for help and knowing that she saw me as a safe space was probably my favorite moment working with kids ever.

I’m Lily, 23, and originally from Godley, Texas! I love to read and write, run, and be outside in general! Working with children is important to me because I’ve seen firsthand how much trust families put into their childcare, and it makes me so happy to be the one they can truly count on. I have been a preschool teacher, assistant director, and currently a nanny now. Some of my favorite things are handprint crafts, sensory activities, and making kids laugh!

Full-Time Child Care Provider Available in Brooklyn, NY: Claire S.
Hi! My name's Claire, and I'm a recent grad from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, studying art education along with printmaking & illustration. I have experience working as a student teacher with grades K-12 in Brooklyn and the UWS and have worked in various summer camps in the Chicago-area. Besides education, children's literature is one of my passions, and I've been lucky enough to work as an illustration assistant on some beautiful middle-grade graphic novels. I think creativity & imagination are extraordinarily important, and I try to communicate those ideals when working with kids. I graduated from Pratt this May & am hoping to find a full time position starting early June!
